Hello dolls & gents!
Today’s post is all about the exciting western style resort collection for Dior. Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, former designer for Valentino, brought a much earthier feel to this collection.
Ms. Chiuri was inspired by primitive wall paintings found in the Lascaux cave. She discovered that Christian Dior had also been fascinated by the cave and had collected prints inspired by the paintings.
The resort collection consisted of midi dresses and skirts, dusters, corseted bodices, and western hats.
The collection carried a bohemian vibe with fringed skirts. Accessories were used sparingly but deliberately via chokers, dainty beaded necklaces, and colorful bracelets.
An A line silhouette appeared on dresses with square necklines. Embroidery was used cleverly, as well as sequins, on skirts which depicted animals.
Waists were well defined and skirts were long and flowing. Hair was tossled giving models a natural look.
What I love about this collection is the use of color. Earth tones were prevalent in rust, tan, and cream. I can almost feel the dessert and mountains.
I am most curious how this look will trickle down to the mass market. Be on the lookout for western wear in the upcoming months.
