Chic Fall Outfits

Hey loves!

Sorry I was away for such a very long time. You know how sometimes you have a mental block and before you know it time has completely gotten away from you? Well…That’s me. Lol!

Because I was having a mental block, I headed over to my favorite place to find inspiration, Pinterest. There I found some truly amazing outfits to help you look chic while staying cozy this fall. Without further ado…

The Bardot sweater may never go out of style. Wear it with jeans and boots for a casual afternoon jaunt to the library. What’s better than a cozy evening in with a good book or movie?

Neutrals can go miles in your wardrobe! Although this nicely layered outfit is made up of neutrals, there is a good mix of textures and  whisper pink which helps keep it interesting.  Quick tip: Always wear your sunnies in the fall and winter when the sun is closest to the earth.

A bright fall colored sweater adds pizzazz to basic denim. I like the long tunic style sweaters worn over skinny jeans. Slip on a pair of  flat heeled boots and a fun scarf and it’s casual weekend wear.

Teal is so perfect for any time of the year. This rich tone that marries well with the many shades brown. I like the whimsy of the  peacock feather earrings and plaid scarf  in this set.

Remember that chambray shirt you couldn’t get enough of? It gets new life when worn under a sweater. An unexpected statement necklace in place of a scarf keeps this outfit fresh. *Note the animal print flats*

Loving this nature inspired look. I love long hikes through the woods, especially this time of the year when the leaves are turning their gorgeous colors and softly crunching underfoot. You can take that feeling along with you by pairing a colorful sweater, jeans and a pair of hiking style boots.

Flannels are still hot. Layer them over tees and tanks to keep you cozy. Add skinny jeans with boot socks and leave your shirt untucked or wear high waisted jeans and tie up your flannel.

Lastly, a light sweater in a rich tone worn with jeans, an animal print coat and simple jewelry. So chic!!

There are so many great sets on Pinterest to give you inspiration on how to style your own wardrobe. All of these came from Pinterest and I claim no ownership to them. I will share some of my own style boards in a future post.

Which look is your favorite? Leave me a comment below.

Happy Fall!

Jewelry Trend & DIY

feather bib

Hello dolls!!

Do you ever think about jewelry as an extension of yourself? When you envision the queen of England at a formal affair, can you picture her without her crown? Well that’s exactly why I want to share with you today. Your jewelry should not be some after thought. It should speak about who you are.  An extension of yourself.

Fall jewelry trends feature layered necklaces, lariets or the Y necklace. Statement pieces in mixed metals. Bibs and chockers caressed necks on the runways.

Tassles, beading, and feathers graced earlobes. Nature inspired jewelry that lent a festive vibe.

Today I want to share with you how to create some of these trendy pieces to add to your fall wardrobe. All you need is a little time and patience. And of course a trip to your local craft store or your own jewelry box. If you are like me , you save those bits that look interesting. You know, the broken pieces from your favorite necklace that you no longer wear and have discarded.

  • Firstly, you must decide on a design. I am choosing the earrings I shared above. To recreate these little beauties from Anthroplogie, you will need hoops that open and close. You should choose a size that doesn’t overwhelm your face. Remember that jewelry,  like make up,  is meant to enhance your features. Here is a link to purchase inexpensive hoops claire’s I have purchased these in the past and they work well for creating your own Anthro inspired earrings.

  • Secondly,  you will need chains in mixed metals to embellish your hoops. Either recycled necklaces or chain from the craft store will do. Remember to pick chains with links that will slip over the hoops easily.  You can cut your chain  in any length, but for this look I will keep mine one half inch.

  • You will also need a tool to cut the chain with which you can purchase at a craft or hobby store. They are usually located in the jewelry and bead section. They look like this :

wire cutters

Here’s a link to purchase these if you don’t happen to have any…wire cutters at JoAnn’s

Take your time cutting your chain. Place the cutters on one side of a link and firmly press handle to cut.  Sometimes you need to wiggle your cutters a bit to completely open the link.

Once cut thread chains over hoops and try them on. If the chain length is too long for your taste, you can easily adjust  by cutting them shorter.

Wear your new fall jewels with your favorite jeans & tee or a dress and boots. They are versatile enough to wear from day to evening.

All of the jewelry pictures belong to Anthropologie with the exception of the Weekender Polyvore style board.

Velvet’s Touch

Hello lovelies,

As I perused the September issue of In Style, I realized that many of the trends we see each fall season are nothing but updated versions of themselves year after year. So are they trends or are they classics? I will let you decide for yourselves.

One of my personal favorite “trends” this fall is velvet. Seriously, can anyone resist the touch of velvet? It’s moody, bohemian vibe speaks to my soul. I love its warmth and versatility. It’s rich texture can be added in many ways from fashion to home decor.

Add a touch of the orient with a velvet coat like this stunner from Ali Express.  They sell many affordable pieces that won’t break the bank.

Accessorize! Add a pop of fall color with this trend via blocked heels or a mini clutch bag.

Romanticize. Elie Saab, the KING of Couture…at least as far as I am concerned… knows just how to manipulate velvet to bring out its rich luster. Oh to be his muse!!

Velvet in the home is elegant. Think of plush pillows or furniture. Randi Garrett shares how to incorporate this look on her website Randi Garrett Design.

Please read this article by Randi on how to incorporate velvet into your fall decor. She even adds links to featured products to make shopping for the desired look easier.

Velvet furniture need not be intimidating. It lends an air to taste and individuality. There are many new pieces to be found,  but I find myself drawn to vintage furniture like these gorgeous velvet chairs and stool from the 1950s.

Whatever your taste, there is an abundance of ways to bring this trend into the season. Feel free to add a comment below and share how you will add velvet this season.
