Velvet’s Touch

Hello lovelies,

As I perused the September issue of In Style, I realized that many of the trends we see each fall season are nothing but updated versions of themselves year after year. So are they trends or are they classics? I will let you decide for yourselves.

One of my personal favorite “trends” this fall is velvet. Seriously, can anyone resist the touch of velvet? It’s moody, bohemian vibe speaks to my soul. I love its warmth and versatility. It’s rich texture can be added in many ways from fashion to home decor.

Add a touch of the orient with a velvet coat like this stunner from Ali Express.  They sell many affordable pieces that won’t break the bank.

Accessorize! Add a pop of fall color with this trend via blocked heels or a mini clutch bag.

Romanticize. Elie Saab, the KING of Couture…at least as far as I am concerned… knows just how to manipulate velvet to bring out its rich luster. Oh to be his muse!!

Velvet in the home is elegant. Think of plush pillows or furniture. Randi Garrett shares how to incorporate this look on her website Randi Garrett Design.

Velvet furniture need not be intimidating. It lends an air to taste and individuality. There are many new pieces to be found,  but I find myself drawn to vintage furniture like these gorgeous velvet chairs and stool from the 1950s.

Whatever your taste, there is an abundance of ways to bring this trend into the season. Feel free to add a comment below and share how you will add velvet this season.

Meet Flappery Company

Hello dolls!!

I am so excited to introduce you to a new series on small businesses featuring women entrepeneurs. I happened upon this delightful woman on Instagram as @thevintagestylist where she sells an amazing array of vintage clothing. Naturally I was hooked. A friendship soon developed and now I want to share her story with you as she opens her new shop Flappery Company. Here is Janice to tell you more about this exciting new endeavour!

Bohemian Rhapsody

Hello lovelies!!

I have this fascination with all things bohemian. I really thought I would outgrow this “phase”,  but it has definitely stuck with me.  To me the bohemian lifestyle represents a carefree world, one full of adventures and the unpredictable. A life of letting go of all our burdens and embracing what we already have.

The above photo was found on pinterest and shows a full on bohemian setting. Rich fabrics, printed textiles and fringe are key elements of this room.

Another way to add a hint of bohemian chic is to hang interesting lanterns in different shapes, styles and colors. These can live anywhere in your home. From your living room or bedroom to an outdoor balcony or porch.

Pillows and cushions featuring festive embroideries add a nice element to a living room sofa and chairs. If you have a small home, large floor cushions add extra seating for guests as well as look pretty.

If you are a do-it-yourself type of girl, there are a lot of really amazing crochet patterns online via ravelry as well as personal web sites. The Sophie’s Universe rug has been all the rage among crocheters since Dedri shared her pattern in 2015. Here’s a link to her site to learn more…

Here is just a sampling of ways to bring this look into your own home. Do you have a favorite bohemian item or decorating tip? I would love to hear from you.

Pantone’s Greenery

Hello dolls,

As you may already know,  the color authorities Pantone, announced Greenery as the color of 2017. This vibrant yellow green invokes images of nature’s first foliage. Use it as a neutral and mix with other spring colors or alone and it becomes the showstopper.

At first I was intimidated by this color wondering how in the world was I going to wear it? Mr. Michael Kors leaves nothing to guesswork. This gorgeous printed dress below in shades of green, white and blue are all I needed for inspiration. I love the belted vest!

What if you are still leery of wearing such a bold color? You can simply incorporate it into your wardrobe via nail polish or accessories.  Essie Nail Polish is one of my personal favorites because it is 5 Free which makes it safer for you as well as the earth.

Maybe you would like to bring the outdoors into your home. Home decor has a great variety of ways to add Greenery to your home.

Pantone says Greenery is “symbolic of new beginnings” and indeed Spring to me represents a fresh new world full of beautiful possibilities. I hope my post inspires you to embrace this color and would love to know how you are using it in your own life. As for myself, I few surprises up my sleeve. But you will have to return to see how I am using Greenery.
